FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Is Puzzlumina free to use?
Yes. You can play unlimited puzzles for free with no daily limit — no account needed. The Free tier includes every size and difficulty except the toughest four combinations (16×16 Sudoku Hard/Advanced and 20×20 Nonogram Hard/Advanced). Create a free account to save your history, stats, and streaks. Pro ($4.99/month) unlocks those toughest grids plus detailed PDF puzzle export.
What puzzle types does Puzzlumina offer?
Sudoku and Nonogram are available now, each in multiple sizes and difficulty levels. Additional puzzle types — including Kakuro and KenKen — are in development and will be added as they become ready.
How are the puzzles generated?
Every puzzle is generated algorithmically using a constraint-based solver that guarantees a unique solution. No two puzzles are the same.
What puzzle sizes are available?
Sudoku comes in 4×4, 9×9, and 16×16; Nonogram in 5×5, 10×10, 15×15, and 20×20 — all free to play. Pro unlocks the two toughest combinations: 16×16 Sudoku at Hard and Advanced difficulty, and 20×20 Nonogram at Hard and Advanced. 16×16 Sudoku uses an expanded symbol set (1–9 and A–G).
What are the different plans?
Free lets you play unlimited puzzles with no daily limit — every size and difficulty except 16×16 Sudoku Hard/Advanced and 20×20 Nonogram Hard/Advanced. Create a free account to save your history, stats, and streaks. Pro ($4.99/month) adds those toughest grids plus detailed PDF puzzle export.
Are there daily puzzle limits?
No. Everyone plays unlimited puzzles — there is no daily cap, even without an account. Creating a free account is what saves your history, stats, and streaks across sessions.
How do hints work?
You have one hint available at a time. Using it reveals one correct empty cell. After using a hint, a 5-minute cooldown starts before your next hint becomes available.
What happens if I make too many mistakes?
Each puzzle size has a mistake limit (Sudoku: 2 for 4×4, 5 for 9×9, 8 for 16×16; Nonogram: 3 for 5×5, 6 for 10×10, 10 for 15×15). If you reach the limit, you can choose to reveal the solution or restart the puzzle from scratch.
Can I save my progress and continue later?
Yes. Your active puzzle (board, notes, timer, mistake count) is saved on your device in browser localStorage as you play, so refreshing the tab or closing your browser doesn't lose your progress. When you finish a puzzle (win or lose) and you're signed in, the result is saved to your account so it appears in your history and stats. We do not currently sync an in-progress puzzle across devices — if you start a puzzle on one device, finish it there.
Can I print puzzles?
Yes. Pro subscribers can export any puzzle as a beautifully formatted PDF. You can optionally include the solution.
